Cortado - Port2050 Roasters - Saint Paul

I'm dialing in a new coffee roaster this week. Today I made a terrible Chemex pour over . The drawn down was 2:30 compared to around 4 minutes for a good pour. The ground were obviously too course resulting in a bitter and slightly watery taste. Tomorrow I will use a finer grind and maybe a slower pour.

The coffee in this picture is not that bad coffee from earlier. This coffee is a cortado I got from Port2050 Roasters in St. Paul. Everything about this drink was fantastic - especially the steamed milk. Steaming milk for a cortado is incredibly hard. The amount of milk you're using is much lower than a latte, so the steam wand doesn't have a lot of depth to steam the milk. If not done right, you end up with too much air in the milk. Too much air creates extra foam that makes a rough milk for the drink. Rough milk happens at the majority of coffee shops that I order cortados from - even my own house.

But, Port2050 steamed this milk so perfectly I took a picture of it. The milk came out super smooth and creamy. This coffee was definitely top 5 coffee drinks I've ever had - especially compared to the garbage I poured myself this morning.

@clint Thanks for the heads up on a new-to-me roaster in St. Paul! Will check it out, as I’ve been pouring a lot of SK lately. Godspeed on your next Chemex brew…
