Smashed Car Window - Minneapolis

They Left the Sunglasses

Over the weekend someone smashed both of our cars front windows and went through the center console. Our neighbor's car got it too. This happened to us almost exactly a year ago, same car and same stretch of street.

And the thing about it is, nothing was taken because nobody leaves anything good in their cars because they know this is going to happen. If I leave my car unlocked, sometimes I will find that my center console is rooted through and again, they never take anything because my car is usually just filled with garbage. I've come to terms with the folks going through the car at night; if I leave it unlocked, I don't suffer any long-term consequence from that.

The entire next day is dedicated to getting your window replaced. There is the glass clean up from the street, vacuuming the car of glass, keeping your kids from cutting their fingers on broken glass like mine did, calling the insurance company, scheduling a replacement window, being available for the tech to handle the replacement, figuring out a car to drive if we need to go somewhere while the glass is being replaced, covering and taping the window in case it rains (it did) and the thought stuck in my mind of when it's going to happen again. If I could bill for time and materials, I'd have a nice billable day.

At least they left my sunglasses.
